Yummy Tummy Saviour!

If you are anything like me, you probably go searching for something sweet to nibble on after every meal. I confess!!! I just can't do without a sweet kick in my life. In search of something yummy which is not loaded with unhealthy fats, sugars and additives that pile on the hips, I started experimenting with different ingredients and came up with a delectable yet healthy truffles recipe.

So, what makes these truffles 'healthy'? First off, dates, with their super nutritious properties, are used as a natural sweetener. Secondly, instead of adding unhealthy fats to bind the truffles I used cashew nuts which are rich in essential fatty acids, vitamins, minerals and soluble dietary fiber. These blissful bites are super easy to make & give a great boost of energy whilst looking after those notorious sweet cravings.

To make the truffles you will need:

  • 1 cup raw cashew nuts
  • 1 cup chopped dates
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • A food processor or chopper/grinder

Put the cashew nuts in the food processor and let them grind till they look like coarse flour. Add the chopped dates and cocoa powder and grind them further till they bind together & form a really thick paste. Remove the mixture from the food processor and roll small portions into small bite sized balls. Roll balls in extra cocoa powder, freshly grated coconut or drizzle with melted dark or white chocolate for a decadent touch.

  • Put in a few drops of peppermint extract, almond extract or vanilla extract.
  • Use a variety of nuts – walnuts, hazelnuts, almonds.
  • Add a small amount of peanut butter for added richness.
  • Roast the nuts before grinding them for a more enhanced flavor.

Voila, I have just shared with you one of my favourite tasty fixes for a healthy lifestyle. I love playing around with the ingredients and coming up with a new version of the truffles each time. These treats can be eaten at breakfast on top of cereal, with tea or coffee during the day or as an after meal dessert. Give this simple & delicious recipe a go and I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

P.s. For all those following strict Vegan, Gluten-free and Paleo diet plans, these truffles are a perfect dessert.

Coffee morning with Nidha Haq - Creative director of Onyx Jewlers

Nidha Haq - Director Onyx Jewelers
We recently got a chance to interact with the very gorgeous and amazingly creative Nidha Haq, Director of Onyx jewelers as well as the Country Ambassador of International Colored Gemstone Association (ICA). Her compelling passion, knowledge and love for jewelry are worth commending. Nidha works extensively between Dubai, Nairobi and Hong Kong.

Onyx jeweler's is one of the Kenyas most reputable fine jewelry brand with outlets at the Hilton Hotel, ABC Place Wayaki Way & Villa Rosa Kempinski. They deal in Tanzanites, Tsavorites, Diamonds, Emeralds, Sapphires, Rubies & many other precious-semi precious stones. They are officially the largest, licensed mineral dealers in town, dedicated to providing quality products and services to their clients for over four decades.

Nidha’s personal favorite stone is Tanzanite, for its distinct mesmerizing trichroic feature, which in layman's terms is the ability of a Tanzanite to change colours between red, blue and purple depending on the amount of light reflecting on it throughout the day. Tsavorites are also very close to her heart as they are found only in her home country, Kenya. The rare nature, and unique colours of Tsavorites have made them the fastest appreciating stone in the last five years.

Note: Talking of price appreciation, here is a shout out to all the jewelry enthusiasts & collectors! Now is the time to buy these two extremely rare stones as the prices have soared over the years and are expected to rise further in the future. Just to give a perspective, over the period of 5 years, Tanzanite has increased in value from $350 to $500/600 & Tsavorite from $800 to $3500 per carat for over a 5 carat size piece.

Being an ambassador for ICA, Nidha gets stones for her jewelry stores from around the globe at very competitive prices and has strong connections with many acclaimed jewelry houses world wide. All her gemstones are finest quality and most precious stones comes with international certificates. She has her own cutting facility in Arusha where an experienced workforce from Mexico, Sri Lanka, Tanzania & Kenya manufacture the most radiant cuts of these rare stones.

Nidha’s flagship store in Villa Rosa Kempinksi is like heaven for any jewelry lover. We were awestruck by practically every piece for its mesmerizing design & exquisite detailing.

One such example is her latest favorite creation, an ethereal pair of dangling diamond earnings. She is fond of these earrings for their fluidity & delicate elegance.
